The Support Unit at Northlakes consists of two classes for children with moderate to severe intellectual disabilities, (IO/IS) and one multi categorical class (MC). Children in the Support Unit have highly individualised programs focusing on academic, social and living skills programs. These classes are supported by three School Learning Support Officers who are instrumental in providing personal care, hygiene and health care.
Many students engage in their physiotherapy and speech therapy sessions at school, outside providers can organise with parents and the school if this is required.
The senior classes will pursue much of their learning in the community setting. The Support Unit utilise the San Remo community centre bus, as well as public buses for transportation around the local area. Students are also very activity members of the school community and participate in all mainstream activities such as excursions, assemblies and special events, as well as spending time integrating into mainstream classroom settings where appropriate.
Please see you our office staff, or your home school if you require information about placement in our Support Unit.
